The Riding Club was well
represented at the Area Horse Trials yesterday, with a
junior team, 2 novice teams and an intermediate team.
It was a long day for many and sometimes rather
frustrating as the scores weren’t really finalized until
8 o’clock!
The junior team of
Sophie Paddock, Eleanor Cloake, Lizzie
Barnes and Sam Reddrop came 4th
out of 6 teams. Eleanor secured a 6th place
individually after a good start in the dressage with
30.9 penalties.
We had 2 novice teams,
the burgundy team of Rachael Mackie, John
Mears, Julie Shaw and Kate Sutton were
a very good 2nd out of 7 teams. Time
penalties played a big part in the novice, as usual, and
had a big effect on the results. John Mears riding the
lovely Rio deserves a special mention as he was 2nd
individually and this was his first One Day Event for 15
years!! Well done John. The cream team of Nicky
Keanzig, Pauline Woodthorpe, Rachael
Mackie and Sacha Trude were 4th.
The intermediate team, I
know had high hopes of qualifying as 3 of its members
went to Offchurch to the finals last year, yet it was
not to be with another 2nd place. The team
of Vicky Mann, Kate Knight, Carla
Michalik and Rachael Mackie all produced
clears cross country. All 4 had good scores but not
quite enough to beat the Rockingham Forest team. The
one consolation, I hope, is that I won individually on
Mister Percy and this qualifies me to go to
Offchurch to represent the club as an individual which
is a great opportunity for me.
Well
done Kate for an excellent win!

Well done to all members,
some of them competing for the club at horse trials for
the first time. It is so unfortunate that 2nd
place doesn’t quite qualify for Offchurch Bury, with so
many 2nds it feels so near yet so far!!!
A special mention and
thank you must go to all those Aspley Guise members who
volunteered and ran the Dressage, I for one was glad to
see some familiar friendly faces when I went to
Dressage!!
Thank you also to Rachael
who did a great job organising all the teams as well as
riding 3 horses yesterday – thank you Rachael!
